Almost 80% of deaths due to diabetes occur in low and middle-income nations. World Diabetes Day aims to raise global awareness of diabetes related to its escalating rates and preventive measures.
History of World Diabetes Day
World Diabetes Day celebration was started by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and WHO on 14 November
to commemorate the birthday of Frederick Banting, who along with Charles Best discovered insulin in 1992, a life-saving treatment for diabetics.

It is celebrated worldwide by over 200 member associations of the International Diabetes Federation in more than 160 countries and territories, all Member States of United Nations and some other organizations and associations, healthcare professionals and patients living with diabetes and their families.
