Doctors for Aneurysms Treatments

Most of you might not have ever heard what is aneurysm? It is a condition where the patient gets blood filled balloon like lump or bulge formed inside the artery wall. It is a serious condition as it could lead to severe brain haemorrhage and in some cases even death. The major areas where the lump forms are the left ventricle of the heart and brain.

Symptoms of Aneurysms : the aneurysms could rupture or not rupture at all.

The symptoms of such aneurysms which do not rupture are:
  1. Fatigue
  2. Problem in speech
  3. Person experiencing double vision
  4. Loss of balance and perception
The symptoms for ruptured aneurysms are :
  1. Severe headaches
  2. Loss of vision
  3. Person experiencing double vision
  4. Stiffness in the neck with continuous pain
  5. Pain in and around the eyes
Causes of Aneurysms :

The brain gets the blood supply from arteries which are located at the base of the brain. The junction where these arteries come together could develop weak spots. These weak spots could then balloon out and fill with blood creating balloon like bulges known as aneurysms.

Artery aneurysm can be either hereditary or caused by disease. But in both the cases, the result is the weakening of the blood vessel. There are various causes leading to such severe conditions. High blood pressure, trauma, tumors, drug abuse especially cocaine can cause inflammation in the artery and thus leading to weakening of the artery wall. In the case of cerebral aneurysm, the aneurysms push on a structure in the brain thus leading to rupture and finally brain haemorrhage. But sometimes there could be no rupture at all.

Treatment for Aneurysms :

Treating a brain aneurysm need a strict medical supervision. The neurosurgeon or Interventional Radiologist works on repairing the blood vessels through Clipping and Coiling. In clipping, the neurosurgeon would cut open the skull, identify the damaged artery and would then put a clip across the aneurysm. What happens in coiling is that the neurosurgeon would thread a tube through the arteries, identify the aneurysm and then he would fill it with either latex or platinum wire coils.

The survival rates depend on how soon the symptoms are recognised, treated and through proper medication.
